Heritage Health Index

In 2004 Heritage Preservation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services launched the first comprehensive survey on the condition and preservation needs of our nation’s collections. Its findings showed that all types of collections, in institutions large and small, are endangered by improper environments, lack of emergency planning, and inadequate staff and funding. In response to the results of the Heritage Health Index, IMLS has created the Connecting to Collections grant program, which provides funding to states with the goal of fostering partnerships among organizations in order to implement the recommendations from the Heritage Health Index. Connecticut was one of the first 19 states to be awarded Connecting to Collections funding, and Conservation ConneCTion is the program that has been created in Connecticut to carry out this initiative.
