Tips for a Romantic Getaway

Whether you’re planning a retreat to a quaint B&B or a luxurious resort, here are some thoughts to keep in mind as you prepare for your romantic getaway...

Keeping it Romantic—what to take with you:

Champagne & chocolate truffles. Plan to bring along whatever libations, treats or sensual snacks put both of you in the mood.

Accessories. Romantic accompaniments might include massage oil, scented candles or adventurous toys and props that you’ve always wanted to try.

Music. is the food of love, so bring your favorite tunes. Sultry guitar or jazzy sax, Sinatra, or a compilation CD of your favorite club tunes—let sweet sounds stir your soul.

Lingerie. Nothing turns up the heat like dressing the part. Whether his taste runs to leopard prints or lacey negligées bring lingerie that tickles his fancy. (And make sure you surprise him with some new frippery he hasn’t seen before.)

Your sense of humor. We all know the motto about the best-laid plans (no pun intended!). No matter what happens, your sunny attitude and “all I need is you” approach will keep you both feeling the love. Remember, romance is a state of mind!

Keeping it Romantic—what to leave behind:

Laptops and work from the office. This is couple time. The rest of the world will have to wait.

Your favorite flannel nightgown. See “Lingerie” above.

Baggage. As in, whatever gripes, resentments or issues you have about your relationship. You’re going away together to celebrate what you love about each other, not what annoys you.

Expectations. It would be great if things unfolded as if you were on a fantasy date from one of those reality shows. But despite what the TV producers want you to believe, reality is not what takes place between two gorgeous twenty-somethings being treated to a free Caribbean vacation. So maybe you and your sweetie won’t end up working your way through the Kama Sutra—but sharing coffee over the Sunday crossword puzzle can ultimately be more bonding.
